Our fabulous team work extremely hard to bring all things glittery and body painting to Ibiza’s visitors and the UK’s festival goers. In order for you, our lovely customers to get a glimpse of life at Kiss My Fairy, we are taking you behind the scenes with our Meet The Glitterati blogs. Staff will be sharing their favourite Kiss My Fairy designs, be dishing all on day to day life working in a body painting shop and sharing makeup, glitter and body painting tips!
When trying to decide on a name for this blog, I stumbled across the word Glitterati (a real word!!) which means “the fashionable set of people engaged in show business or some other glamorous activity” Straight away I thought yep, that’s us… working at Kiss My Fairy is definitely a glamorous activity!
In our first instalment we meet one half of Kiss My Fairy’s #Femalebosses the super creative Lady Karen……
What is your role at Kiss My Fairy? – I am the co-owner, shop director and all round creative for Kiss My Fairy. I deal with the day to day running of the shop, sourcing the glitter, making our very own secret blends as well as sourcing unique and independent fashion labels to sell in the shop. I also hand pick and train all our staff to ensure that Kiss My Fairy continue to create free hand designs, ensuring that no two paints are ever the same!
What is your artistic background? – I have been working as a hair and make up artist for over 17 years and have spent my career working between London and Ibiza. After completing my studies in Manchester I landed a job at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, from there I progressed onto working in the West End Theatres in London. For over ten years I worked on projects such as the Lion King, Phantom of the opera, My Fair lady, Les miserables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Wicked and productions at The Royal Opera house.
Aside from theatre some of my favourite projects have been working as a hair and make up artist on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Duchess, The Great British Hairdresser (Ibiza episode) and for Florence and the Machines Ibiza rocks gig.
Most recently i’ve worked on Taboo the new BBC Tom Hardy drama (Much to my female friends delight!)
What is your favourite Kiss My Fairy look and why?
Anything individual and fun, I particularly love full body paint like these members of our parade team who we painted a few years ago. It is always to fun to create something unique and individual, full body paint always gets a great reaction from people and you can really make a bold statement!
The most wearable look I love at the moment is this hand painted bindi look complete with face jewels. We like to create things which are wearable everyday as well as something for themed parties. This look is perfect for Ibiza or festivals!
What is your top beauty tip? –
Make up tip for surviving the summer heat –To avoid an oily complexion in your holiday snaps, I recommend an oil free tinted moisturiser or foundation. Always use a primer underneath and finish with a layer of powder. Mattify your base more than normal as the sun will bring back your natural sheen anyway.
Tip for Body Painting – Avoid sun oil prior to painting, if you have very fair skin and feel like you need that layer of protection, use non oil based sunscreen or allow your sunscreen to sink in for an hour before you get painted.
What has Kiss My Fairy got in store for 2017? – That would be telling!! We certainly have a few surprises up our sleeves and exciting projects in the pipelines in both the UK & Ibiza!
